Brain & Beer

Date:

Tuesday, March 20, 2018, 8:00pm to 10:00pm

Location:

Abraham Hostel Jerusalem, 67 Hanevi'im street, Jerusalem

The Jerusalem Brain Community invites you to our upcoming Brain & Beer event on March 20, 2018 in Abraham Hostel. The evening consists of short lectures on topics related to neuroscience. This gives students and faculty from all fields of brain research the opportunity to meet in a relaxed atmosphere over a beer, discuss their research and forge new collaborations.

Yoav Mathov/ "What makes us intelligent?"

Yoav is a PhD student in ELSC, under the supervision of Prof. Liran Carmel. In his research he works with ancient DNA from extinct humans and animals in order to examine the changes in the brain throughout evolution. Moreover, Yoav gives lectures and courses about the brain for the general public.

Dr. Tamar Licht / "Neural stem cells - where, how and what for?"

Tamar is a research fellow at the lab of Prof. Eli Keshet, Hadassah Ein Karem. She studies the neural stem cells and their niche (focusing on interaction with blood vessels) and their contribution to brain repair following injury.

Yotam Drechsler, CEO of BrainQ/ "Can AI help paralyzed people out of their wheelchairs?"

Massive recent developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) have led to breakthroughs in a number of fields, including in medicine and neurology. In this lecture, the company will present its brain-computer interface (BCI) based treatment as well as technologies it has developed, which are currently being applied in an innovative therapy for patients suffering from a variety of neurodisorders.

BrainQ was recently chosen by Google as one of four companies worldwide that are expected to change the world of healthcare using AI, and is currently a participant in the prestigious Studio program for this technological giant at its main headquarters in San Francisco. BrainQ, a Jerusalem-based startup, has ten employees and is currently expanding its research and development departments to engage in additional brain research fields.
