Academic Background and Fields of Interest

Neta Kligler-Vilenchik is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and Journalism, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 
Her research focuses on youth civic and political participation in the context of the changing media environment. She is particularly interested in the ways that young people, who often feel disconnected by traditional political institutions, can find voice and agency in the context of digital participation. Her current research projects include a theoretical elaboration of “Alternative Citizenship Models” as an emerging paradigm, and an examination of informal political talk and disagreement in WhatsApp groups. Neta has published in leading communication journals, including New Media & Society, International Journal of Communication, European Journal of Communication, Computers in Human Behavior, Social Media + Society and more. She is a co-author on the book “By Any Media Necessary: The New Youth Activism” (New York University Press, 2016).

Kligler-Vilenchik’s work has received Top Paper awards from the AEJMC Cultural and Critical Studies Division and the ICA Mass Communication division. She received her PhD from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University ofSouthern California, where she was the recipient of a Fulbright doctoral student grant.
