Jonathan Bar-David, 33, is a Ph.D. student at the NanoOpto group in the applied physics department of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Born and raised in Haifa, Jonathan graduated from the Hebrew Reali school (majoring physics and computer science, 2001) and volunteered for a community service year, guiding youth in Tirat HaCarmel (2001-2002), and later served in the IDF as an information security officer (2002-2006). He completed his B.Sc. in physics in the Hebrew University (2007-2010) and graduated the Hebrew University’s M.Sc. program in nanoscience and nanotechnology with research in the field of surface plasmon polaritons under the guidance of prof. Uriel Levy (2010-2012). His current areas of interest are metallic and dielectric meta-surfaces as building-blocks of controllable optical elements, and the integration of quantum-emitters into such structures. When not in the lab he enjoys backcountry hiking with his wife, Maya.
