Alon Harel

Alon Harel is Mizcok Professor of Law at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Professor Harel research topics include the areas of legal and political philosophy, constitutional theory, criminal law theory and law and economics. His book, Why Law Matters (2014), defends a non-instrumentalist view of law under which legal institutions are valuable as such rather than as means for the realization of other goals. Among other issues this book defends robust constitutionalism and justifies the separation between private and public law. Professor Harel was a visiting professor at Columbia Law School, Texas Law School, Toronto Law School and Boston University Law School. He was also a fellow at the Harvard Center for Ethics and at the Toronto

University Center of Ethics.
