Ruth Fine is Salomon and Victoria Cohen Professor in Iberian and Latin American Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Her fields of expertise are semiotics and literary theory, the Spanish Golden Age literature, and the literature of the Conversos. In these areas she has published numerous articles and books. She was the Director of the Institute of Western Studies and of the European Forum at the Hebrew University, and founder and President of the Israeli Association of Hispanists. Presently, she acts as the Head of the Literary Trend of the Department of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies at the Hebrew University, as President of the International Association of Hispanists and as Vice-President of the International Association of Cervantistas. In 2013 she was awarded the "Orden del Mérito Civil" by the Kingdom of Spain for her contribution to Spanish culture. In 2016 she was appointed Correspondent Member of the Royal Spanish Academy. In 2019 she received a Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Navarra.
