Concepts and discourses around Human Dignity - Prof. Marcus Düwell (Utrecht University)

The lecture provided a panoramic overview of contemporary discourse around Human Dignity and its ever growing complexity. As such, the lecture touched the fundamental questions that surround the concept of Human Dignity and the attempts to clarify its normative meaning. In this manner, the lecture dealt, among others, with various perceptions of Human Dignity rooted in different traditions; with the connections between Human Dignity and moral theories; and with possible ethical and normative justifications for Human dignity. The lecture also touched different approaches with regard to the relationship between Human Dignity and Human Rights – a central axis of the discussion on Human dignity that interconnects moral, legal and political considerations.
