We are interested in photochemical and -biological processes, in particular of chromophore-protein complexes and explicitly solvated molecules. Using the hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) methodology we have investigated the isomerization in retinal proteins. The simulations provide detailed mechanistic understanding of photo-induced processes and help to understand experimental findings.
